About us

At Uli Art Consultancy, our mission is to connect collectors, the public and organisations with exceptional African art that inspires, and transforms thinking and space. Whether you are looking to understand how to tell the Africa story to a global audience through art or simply wish to explore placing  art in your space, our team will confidently guide you through every step.

Placing art in public spaces

We support organisations to confidently  create ‘spaces’ for better discourse on Africa. This includes what is emerging out of Africa - the continent, its diaspora and the global African cultures and influence.

We will help you explore what it takes to engage with a diverse audience to feel invited into the stories of your collection.

Art consultancy and acquisitions

We work closely with you to understand your unique needs and preferences, then acting in an advisory role, we support you to acquire works or create custom solutions to match your need and preferences. We encourage and support collectors and institutions to demonstrate social responsibility by creating greater access to works, so audiences can benefit from the knowledge they embody.

Telling Africa's stories

Telling Africa's stories

The stories of Africa are largely 'unlisted', yet its stories are rich and varied. Its culture and art are a reflection of this. Africa's stories predate, yet also include the movement of its peoples. Told from an African perspective, they reflect the achievements, pain and beauty of its past, and incorporates its diaspora in the story of its present and its future.  Whatever your chosen medium, we help you tell this story well.

Current projects

Global Africa Art Prize (GAAP)

The Global Africa art prize is a contemporary art prize that aims to showcase the art of Africa and it diaspora, as well as art inspired by Africa the continent, it's culture and design aesthetic. By 2030 twenty five percent of the world's population under 25 will be in Africa. Therefore, in the future the visual language of Africa will represents the aesthetics of the majority.

Africa Unlisted

‘We were not just infantry soldiers, neither did we volunteer to go to war’

The myth that African soldiers willingly volunteered to go to war for pay obscures the fact that a large number of them were conscripts kidnapped and sometimes taken from school. Yet another myth is that African soldiers only served as cannon fodder, infantry soldiers or carrier corps. In reality some took on intelligence and administrative roles within the local war office. This project is collecting stories of soldiers that took part in the 2nd world war, to explore the contribution and heroism of soldiers from the African and west indian regiments.

Collection profiling

African art is a strong part of Africans ancestral memory.  This is why looted works held around the globe remains an emotive topic. However, some African  works were acquired legally by collectors, institutions and museums, so we are currently working to encourage them to confidently share these works . This will allows the world to celebrate the history of Africa and it's brilliance that pre dates colonialism and the movement of its people. Access to these vital pieces of our ancestral memories are also evidence of  Africans courage, industry, innovation  and tenacity, a strong foundation in which the African identity can be built and reframed.
